DENTURES
It must be understood that dentures are a substitute for natural teeth. As such they have the following limitations:
* Generally the chewing efficiency of dentures is about 20-25% of that of natural teeth.
* Often they must replace substantial amounts of lost or missing gum tissues and teeth. This added bulk may reduce the stability of the dentures.
* Dentures are supported by areas of the mouth that were not designed to carry the loads placed on them. If the gums are not given an eight hour rest each day, they may dissolve more rapidly. This may require more frequent relines or adjustments.
* Just like teeth, dentures must be kept clean. Dentures that are not cleaned well may develop a bad odor.
* Dentures may be designed to provide more facial support. If you desire additional plumping, the dentures may become unstable and the gums may dissolve away more rapidly.
* Some people are unable to wear conventional dentures and may require the use of special soft liners or implant- supported dentures.
Your dentures will be made using a technique that involves several impressions and fittings. You will be involved in the selection of the shape, size, color and arrangement of the teeth.
If you value the opinion of someone besides yourself, regarding your teeth, it may be helpful to bring that person with you. If you would like your teeth to look like someone else's teeth, either a photo or the personal appearance of that person is encouraged.
The teeth will be arranged in wax until both you and the doctor are satisfied with all aspects of the teeth. When you feel that they are acceptable, you will be asked to sign a consent to proceed with final processing. Any changes to the arrangement of the teeth after that can be made, but there will be additional charges.
Once the dentures are delivered, there will be several adjustments to refine the fit of the dentures to your mouth. The fee includes these adjustments for a period of three months.
Every attempt will be made to develop satisfactory dentures. It is important to remember that we cannot guarantee perfection. We do promise to do our best.
I have read the information about dentures and have had all my questions answered to my satisfaction.
